O’Loughlin to remain as England captain

Wigan’s Sean O’Loughlin will stay on as England captain, Wayne Bennett has confirmed.

The Australian, who replaced Steve McNamara as the national head coach earlier this month, addressed the situation in his first press conference today.

“I’ve given some thought to who will captain the team, and that won’t change – why should it?

“He’s a good leader who’s highly regarded in Australia by everyone, and the feedback on him has been outstanding from people I’ve spoken to, so there’s no cause to change it. I haven’t come here to change things that worked in the past.”

Meanwhile, Bennett also confirmed that Jeremy Hickmans and Scott Barker will be part of his coaching staff. The pair currently work with Bennett and Brisbane Broncos.
