The world’s most advanced shoulder pads

Orbit Sports have released what they claim to be the most advanced shoulder pads in rugby.

The special XRD foam in the StormForce Xpro shirt (pictured) is unique in the sense that it is much thinner than traditional padding yet absorbs up to 90 per cent of impact energy. It is soft to the touch but firms up at impact to form a protective shell and prevent injury.

It is breathable so stops you sweating excessively and features an antimicrobial coating so won’t smell.
They are extremely light weight, too, but can withstand impacts up to 4,600lbs according to Orbit’s research. The average hit in rugby, they say, is 1,600lbs so even if Sam Burgess thwarts you you’ll stay protected.

“The padding currently offered in rugby apparel doesn’t come close to the level of protection that XRD technology can offer.”

Orbit’s Jaco Kirsten said: “When we first encountered XRD Protection, we immediately knew that it could positively contribute to the ongoing safety of rugby players during training, helping to protect them so they are match fit for their game.

XRD products are widely used by some of the biggest names in American Football, hockey and motorsports.
