Paul McGregor to leave St George

Paul McGregor is set to step down from his role at St George Illawarra Dragons.

The former Australia centre has agreed to resign from his role as the Dragons head coach after Friday’s game with Parramatta Eels.

“I approached the club’s chief executive Ryan Webb earlier in the week regarding a number of matters and we eventually came to an agreement that this week will be my last as coach of the Dragons,” McGregor said.

“I understand a fresh face and new voice is needed to move the club forward. I hope this decision will provide clarity to the playing group, the entire staff and our passionate Red V members and partners regarding the direction the club is headed.”

Dean Young will take over on an interim basis with the club set to begin its search for a new coach ahead of next season.

His decision to step down follows three straight losses which has left them 12th in the table.
