Pearce to undergo intensive rehabilitation following video scandal

Shame NRL star Mitchell Pearce has admitted he has a problem with alcohol and will undergo treatment in an “intensive rehabilitation facility for an extended period”.

His club, Sydney Roosters, released a statement saying the New South Wales representative has gone abroad for treatment.

“Pearce has tonight departed for the overseas facility with his mother, Terri,” the statement read.

“The club’s concerns for Mitchell’s welfare remain paramount as he seeks treatment.”

Earlier in the day, Pearce opened up about the scandal, which centres around a lewd video fro Australia Day.

“My behaviour was unacceptable. I’m embarrassed and take full responsibility for my actions,” he said.

“I acknowledge I have a problem with alcohol and it is something I have to address.

“It is not an excuse but a realisation that I finally need help.

“Together with the club I’m working on a solution for me to address these issues that will come out in the next couple of days.

“I just want to thank everyone for turning up and I apologise again.”
