Playing with Rockets!

CRAMLINGTON ROCKETS are, following the huge success of an inaugural event last October, again running a half-term camp at Alnwick.

The Alnwick Rockets Camp is being staged at the Multi-Sports complex at Longhoughton First School on Monday 15 February and Tuesday 16 February, from 10.00am to 3.00pm.

The camp, which is aimed at children from five to 13 year old, is available at £15, as an introductory offer, for both days.

An impressive 47 children enjoyed last autumn’s camp, smashing estimates for what was the first ever Rugby League event of its type in the town.

The Alnwick initiative also helped the Rockets set a new record in the North East of 108 children across its camps – exceeding figures achieved by some Super League clubs that month.

Children should fetch suitable indoor and outdoor clothing, and a packed lunch.

Cramlington have been coaching in all primary schools in Alnwick since September and Head Community Coach Danny `Bear’ Gilroy said: “We love working with the kids in Alnwick, who are easily some of the most excited and loudest kids we get to coach.

“We try and make our sessions as fun as possible and the camp will be an extension of that, as well as being a way for kids to sample what environment we create with a view to joining the rugby club.”

He added: “However it is a multi-sports camp so we will play other sports beside rugby. At only £15 we are looking to make it as cheap as possible as an introductory price so as many children as possible can get involved.”
