Castleford Tigers coach Daryl Powell highlighted Ben Roberts for special praise following their 25-24 win against St Helens, insisting he is rapidly becoming an important player for the club.
Roberts endured a slow start to his Super League career, but has revelled in a switch to full-back and demonstrated his kicking ability with his drop goal that won the match for Cas on the hooter.
“A draw would have been fine but we put a message out there and he struck it pretty sweet,” Powell said. “It was pretty smart from him.
“He had a tough time at the back with their kicking game but he did some really good things and he’s becoming a real good player for us.”
Cas have now won four games in succession and are into the top four after beating top of the league two weeks in a row, and Powell insists that belief in the camp is growing by the week.
“For us belief is just growing all the time. You’ve got to be so pleased for the boys and the way they’re going about their business at the moment,” he said.
“We’ve got some confidence about us and we’re pragmatic at the right times as well. We’ve got a good balance at the moment.
“We’re hanging in battles and finding a way to win. We’re delighted with the way we’re going.”
