Red Devils end season on a high

Salford Red Devils were far too strong for a depleted Widnes Vikings side tonight at the A J Bell Stadium, winning 36-6 to bring the curtain down on a season that saw them fail to reach the play-off positions in Super League.

The Red Devils scored six tries, with Josh Griffin converting them all, while the Vikings could only reply with a late Patrick Ah Van try that was goaled by Jack Owens.

Rangi Chase, as so often this season, was the star of the show, as Junior Sa’u scored two tries, while Harrison Hansen, Tony Puletua, Chase himself and Josh Griffin scored tries.

Chase scored the pick of the tries right on the interval with some great footwork to give the Red Devils an unbeatable 24-point lead.

The Vikings rested skipper Jon Clarke, Kevin Brown, Danny Tickle and Rhys Hanbury, who are all expected to return for the opening round of the play-offs next weekend, when the Vikings will almost certainly face a trip to their near neighbours Warrington Wolves.

A full report and photos for this game will feature in Monday’s edition of Rugby League Express.
