RFL post pre-tax profit once again

At the RFL Annual General Meeting held at the John Smith’s Stadium, Huddersfield, on Friday, CEO Nigel Wood reflected on a great 2015. “Financially, 2015 was a very strong year with the highest Turnover recorded in non-World Cup years since 2011 and investment around the sport at the highest ever level,” he said.

The Annual Report revealed that the RFL posted a pre-tax profit for the fourteenth year in succession, which in 2015 was £201,000.

Year on year turnover increased by 33 per cent, mainly due to increased broadcast and match income. Match income increased by 62 per cent as a result of hosting the New Zealand international series in the autumn of 2015. Sponsorship income grew by 64 per cent, due to an increase in the number and value of partnerships.

The funds distributed around the sport were at the highest ever levels, which has provided a level of financial stability around the professional game not seen for some time.

Air Commodore Dean Andrew OBE RAF was appointed President of the RFL after Paul Morgan stepped down. Born in Hull, Dean is an avid Hull FC fan and has been involved in Armed Forces RL since its acceptance as a sport in the Services.
