Leeds Rhinos head coach Brian McDermott admits he wouldn’t be surprised if prop Craig Huby turned out for Castleford Tigers this Saturday in the Challenge Cup Final – two weeks after dislocating his elbow.
Huby suffered the horrific injury playing for Cas in their semi-final victory against Widnes Vikings – with his fitness arguably one of the biggest talking points heading into the Wembley final. But McDermott believes modern day medical staff can work wonders these days – and believes it wouldn’t be a shock if Huby played.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he played. It’s amazing what the medical people can do nowadays,” McDermott said.
“As Daryl (Powell) said, Rugby League players are tough people and Huby is a tough bloke. If you put enough strapping around it and inject enough things into it then I’m sure it will numb his arm. It wouldn’t surprise me if he played.”
