ROBBIE MULHERN believes there’s no reason why Leigh Leopards can’t win this year’s Super League Grand Final.
The Leopards have been steadily building since returning to the top flight back in 2023, winning the Challenge Cup and finishing in back-to-back play-off competitions.
However, in 2024 and 2025, the Leopards went down to Wigan Warriors in the semi-finals, but Mulhern believes that Leigh can improve on that statistic.
“We are looking pretty sharp but the proof will be in the opening rounds. I think we will go well and we will improve on last year,” Mulhern told League Express.
“The signings we have made have benefited the group and the goal now is to get to the Grand Final – I think we’re in a good position to do that.”
The 31-year-old joined Leigh as part of the club’s rebrand from Centurions to Leopards – and Mulhern believes that the decision to rebrand has set the Leopards on a determined path.
“I’ve loved it, when I came here in the first year of Leigh being the Leopards, there was a lot of commotion about whether it was going to work or if it was some sort of ploy.
“Since then, everyone has bought into it. It is seen as a club creating our own history whilst still respecting the history of Leigh in general.
“The boys that come in have made their own path and everyone has bought into that ethos. I think that’s why we’ve done so well, because we’ve brought the right people to the club.”
Mulhern also reflected on Leigh’s semi-final loss to Wigan Warriors in 2025.
“I think we will be right in the mix for the Grand Final. I think we showed last year, especially in that semi-final when I thought we were the better team for large parts. But Wigan have experience and the core of players that have been together for a long time and that showed in clutch moments.
“Now we’ve got another year of experience so there’s no reason why we can’t kick on and win it.”
