Russell has today to prove fitness

Warrington Wolves will make a decision over full-back Matty Russell today (Thursday), as he battles to be fit for their play-off semi-final clash against Wigan Warriors on Friday night.

Russell has not featured since suffering a horrific facial injury in week one of the play-offs against Widnes Vikings two weeks ago, but has been included in Tony Smith’s 19-man squad for the game against the Warriors.

However, with just one training session to go until the game, Smith has insisted that they won’t take any risks on the Scotland international – but did admit he is looking in good shape ahead of the clash.

“We’ll run our eye over him,” said Smith. “He’s got one more training session to prove himself, so we’ll work that out after training.

“He’s looking a lot better, still not right, but he’s probably going to lose his front teeth. They’re fractured quite high up in his gum, so he’s not quite through it all yet.

“Whether he’s good enough to get back on the field we’ll make that decision after training.”
