Ryan Carr explains logic behind 20-man Castleford squad as update given on potential new signings

CASTLEFORD TIGERS are ‘down the line’ with several new signings, head coach Ryan Carr has revealed.

The Tigers are currently down to the bare bones due to injury and have been actively looking for a new fullback following blows to Blake Taaffe and Fletcher Rooney.

That being said, a number of Castleford players are out on loan such as Cain Robb, Akim Matvejev and Jimmy Beckett, leading to some questioning why they haven’t been included in 21-man squads.

With Bradford Bulls the visitors to The Jungle tomorrow night, Carr has explained his reasoning behind a 20-man squad.

“We’ve got a couple of boys out on loan playing Championship footy instead of sitting there in the 21-man squad as its hard not playing a game,” Carr said.

“We are still actively recruiting, obviously with the squad being new, we’ve had a few people move on.

“And now we’ve got to get some replacements so hopefully we will have some more bodies coming in over the next month.

“Fullback is a possibility but we won’t know that until it happens. We are working hard in the background.”

How close are the new signings to being Castleford players?

“We’re down the line with a couple of people but until it actually happens you don’t want to talk too much about it.

“We’ve got to go with the flow on it.”

Will Semi Valemei play against Bradford?

“Semi is a week to week proposition but he is working as hard as he can.

“We need to make sure that when he is back, he is back for good.”
