St Helens have handed 17-year-old Owen Smith a professional contract following an impressive trial period with the club.
Smith has signed an 18-month contract with the club after impressing in the club’s Under 19s and reserve grade teams. His new contract will take him up until the end of his eligibility for the Club’s 19s Academy.
“Owen comes in from Halton Hornets U18s,” Academy head coach Derek Traynor said. “We have been keeping an eye on him for a while and he impressed on trial.
“He chose us over other Super League clubs in the area and has done enough to make us think he can go on and hopefully become a Super League player at the Saints.
“He has played for the 19s, and the reserves, and has shown he is capable of handling himself at both levels.”
