Saints topple Warrington in Super 8s opener

Warrington’s treble hopes suffered a blow as they went down to the resurgent Saints 20-18.

A Mark Percival penalty midway through the second-half was the only difference between the sides, securing a sixth straight victory for Keiron Cunningham’s side.

The visitors held a 12-6 lead at half-time thanks to scores through Louis McCarthy-Scarsbrook and Jonny Lomax, which came either side of a Daryl Clark try.

Percival extended the lead with a second-half penalty before Jack Hughes barged over, only for Jordan Turner to score minutes later.

Ryan Atkins’ solo effort seven minutes from time cut the deficit to two points, but Saints managed to hold on, leaving the Wolves a point behind league leaders Hull FC having played an additional game.
