SALFORD chief executive Ryan Brierley says those making up the squad going forward must be both good people and good players.
The CorpAcq Stadium side are already preparing for 2027 – pack brothers Cole and Noah Appleby being the latest to pen contract extensions – having grown stronger as their first season since the liquidation of the former Super League version of the club has progressed.
Brierley played for the old Salford, and ended his time at Oldham to take his current role in late December as a group, including former Salford back Mason Caton-Brown, launched the phoenix version.
He had only a few weeks – and a limited budget – to assemble a playing roster, and there has been a string of coming and goings, including multiple loans, the most recent Castleford halfback or hooker Corey-Jay Sharpe, with more than 70 players featuring.
With halfback Marc Sneyd, another who played for the old Salford, a keynote new recruit, Brierley is seeking more squad stability in 2027, when he believes coach Dave Hewitt and player-assistant Brad Dwyer can build on the progress made this year.
He told the Bring On The Salford podcast: “I believe with a (planned) £300,000 playing budget, we can achieve something pretty special.”
Brierley says the squad is being carefully assembled, adding: “Good players will win you a trophy, a good culture will win you ten.”
