Sarsfield set for extended stay with Halifax?

On-loan Halifax forward Matt Sarsfield has admitted he has loved his time at the Championship side – but says it’s down to Salford’s own situation on whether he stays.

Sarsfield’s month-long loan at Fax yielded a fruitful return, as he scored seven tries in four appearances during that time.

It has since emerged that Fax have got him back on a week-to-week short-term deal, which means he could be recalled by the Red Devils at any time depending on their own injury problems.

But Sarsfield told the Halifax Courier that he’s been delighted with how his time has gone at the Championship side so far.

“It’s up to Salford now, I’m week to week at Halifax so it’s all down to them.

“It’s out of my hands, it just depends how their squad is and whether they have any injuries.

“I’ve really enjoyed my rugby here though and I think I’m going back a better player.

“This is the first time I’ve played four games on the bounce in a year, maybe two years.”

Fax travel to Cumbria on Saturday to face Whitehaven – and whether Sarsfield is involved or not, he says he’ll be there regardless.

“I’ll have a drive up there on Saturday anyway, even if I’m not playing,” said Sarsfield.

“The Salford game is on the Friday night so I can get myself up there to watch anyway.”
