Segeyaro try sinks Roosters

James Segeyaro scored a try on his Brisbane Broncos debut to help his side inflict Sydney Roosters’ first defeat in nine games with a 15-10 scoreline.

Despite Cooper Cronk’s early sin bin for a pullback on Darius Boyd, the Roosters took the lead on eight minutes when James Tedesco burrowed his way over.

But when Cronk returned to the field, Payne Haas stormed over for his first try in the NRL that drew the Broncos level.

Both teams kicked penalties as they went in at half-time at 8-8.

The game was closely fought in the second half but the deadlock was broken with 15 minutes to go when Anthony Milford kicked a field goal. Brisbane then went onto score a try through Segeyaro five minutes later to make their lead a two-score one.

Mitchell’s penalty couldn’t help the Roosters late on.
