Several fixtures fall foul to snow

The snow storms that have been ravaging parts of Northern England have taken their toll on the Rugby League fixtures this weekend, with several games now postponed due to adverse weather.

Chief amongst them is Super League champions St Helens’ final pre-season clash ahead of the big Super League opener next Friday. Their fixture against Rochdale Hornets, which was supposed to take place at Langtree Park on Friday, has had to be cancelled.

Rochdale say the offered Spotland as an alternative venue – which was accepted by the stadium company – but with more snow set to fall, the decision was made early to call the game off completely.

Huddersfield Giants Under 19s clash against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats at Sandal RUFC tomorrow has also been postponed.

That means that the Giants will have had just ONE fixture going into the Super League season to warm themselves up, with the friendly at Halifax last weekend their sole pre-season friendly.

Earlier in the week, Castleford’s friendly with York on Friday was also cancelled – but that was due to the state of the pitch at the Mend-A-Hose Jungle.
