Smith admits Saints were better

Warrington Wolves chief Tony Smith admitted his side weren’t at their best following defeat to St Helens.

The league leaders lost their first home game of the season after being edged out by St Helens, losing 25-22.

Despite last scores providing a frantic end to the match, Smith admitted the side came up just a bit short.

“Saints were slightly better than us from the start,” he said.

“They found a spring in their step this week and were quicker to the punch when they needed to be.

“We just needed a little bit more, we inflicted a little bit of pain on ourselves at times.

“I thought we were a little bit off in defence, we didn’t quite have that sharpness.

“Saints delivered everything we expected but we didn’t have the spark to stop it.”
