St Helens academy star Joe Sharratt has suffered serious head injuries after an incident in Manchester at the weekend.
The Saints youngster was caught on video outside of Manchester’s Factory 251 nightclub being assaulted, which has resulted in bouncers from the venue being sacked. The footage shows a friend of Sharratt being punched a number of times, while Sharratt himself is thrown to the ground. Reports since have suggested that the youngster suffered a bleed to the brain but has since retained the ability to talk and sit up while in hospital.
A witness appeal has been released by Greater Manchester Police, while they have also asked the local council to review their licence. The nightclub confirmed in the aftermath of the incident they had terminated the contract with the security company, who also confirmed they had sacked the employees in question.
Sharratt was part of the Lancashire Schoolboys team that played against Australia on Saturday and could have played for England schoolboys against Australia. TotalRL.com send their thoughts out to Joe and his family.
