ST HELENS halfback Will Roberts has signed for Super League rivals York Knights.

The 20-year old joined St.Helens aged 14, and progressed through the Scholarship programme.

After progressing through the Under-18s, Roberts then joined the Academy, where he was part of the Championship winning team in 2023.

He moved into Saints’ first-team squad in 2024, and spent time on loan at Swinton, Rochdale and Widnes Vikings before being released from Saints at the end of last season.

York head coach Mark Applegarth is enthused about the capture of Roberts: “He comes very highly rated from St.Helens.

“They’re blessed with an abundance of talent in the half backs and I’ve watched Will for a couple of years now.

“I really like what he’s about. I think he’s going to be a quality half back over the next two to three years.”
