Saints set to sign Salford captain

St Helens have reportedly signed Salford captain Tommy Lee.

League Express reports that the 28-year-old hooker has turned down a contract with his current club to join up with the Langtree Park club.

Lee is out of contract at Salford at the end of the season and has been free to talk to clubs since May.

Championship side Leigh Centurions were also in the race to sign the Red Devils captain, but the 28-year-old wanted a guarantee that he would be playing in Super League as he enters his prime.

Lee has been at Salford since 2014 following previous spells at Hull FC, Wakefield, Huddersfield and London. He was appointed as the club’s captain at the beginning of the season after receiving the backing of his team-mates and head coach Ian Watson.
