St Helens shopping for full-back, says Cunningham

St Helens coach Keiron Cunningham has revealed that the club are shopping around for a new full-back – and may announce something in the coming days.

The Saints have lost Shannon McDonnell and Jonny Lomax for the rest of the season due to injury – and with Paul Wellens announcing his retirement on Wednesday, the Saints are effectively without a full-back.

But Cunningham told the St Helens Star that they are actively looking for someone, and are hopeful something can be tied up shortly.

“We will have a look and you never know in the next couple of days we might have something done, ticked and sorted and we might be announcing something,” he said.

“As soon as the injury happens we are almost used to it like clockwork, back on the phone, back in Australia and the process is rolling again.

“I’d like to think we can bring something in and we have got a bit of a resource to do that.

“Not much, so it is not going to be Greg Inglis, but it will be somebody who is very good at what he does and for the finances he will do a great job.”
