Stone confirms he’d like to keep Connor at Huddersfield

New Huddersfield Giants coach Rick Stone has confirmed he would be keen to keep Jake Connor at the club in 2017.

Connor is currently embroiled in a transfer saga with Hull FC and the Giants – with the RFL revealing earlier this month that Connor has been registered with the Black and Whites.

But, speaking to the press for the first time on Thursday, Stone said he would be keen to ensure the talented back remains at the Giants in 2017.

He said: “I’m aware of it (the speculation).

“He’s a player we’d like to keep; I’ll do everything in my power to help Jake stay at Huddersfield next year.

“He’s a good, young player and he’s very confident in his own skin at the club.

“There’s a little bit to sort out there but I don’t know the details at the moment.”

Stone joins the club as Chris Thorman moves up to assistant coach, with Luke Robinson becoming the club’s under-19s coach.

And Stone confirmed that together, they will all pick a team to take on St Helens on Sunday.

“We’re picking the team together and we’re close to a team, we’ll announce it tomorrow,” he said.

“I’ve been helped by these two boys and a couple of senior players from what I’ve seen in the past. I’ll get better as it goes along – not saying I’ll get it right first game.”
