James Tamou to leave North Queensland

NRL-winning forward James Tamou is set to leave the World Champions, his manager has confirmed.

The 27-year-old will leave the Cowboys for family reasons, with Tamou understood to be keen on a move back to Sydney to be nearer to family ahead of the birth of his third child with partner Brittany.

Tamou’s manager Sam Ayoub told the AAP: “He’s made the decision to relocate his family to Sydney to have some extended family support around.”

A number of clubs are understood to be interested in the Australian international, with Penrith Panthers the current frontrunners.

“I’m working through with the interested parties here and I’ll work through things over the next week or so,” Ayoub said.

The news comes as a setback to the Cowboys, who defeated Newcastle Knights 46-16 earlier today.

Ben Hannant, Justin O’Neill, Rory Kostjasyn and Ethan Lowe are all off contract at the end of the season.
