Tee Ritson injury is big blow for Barrow Raiders

BARROW RAIDERS boss Paul Crarey is resigned to being without star winger Tee Ritson for the rest of this campaign after the prolific scorer ruptured an Achilles tendon.

The former Workington Town and Newcastle Thunder player is in his second spell at the club after a stint in Super League with St Helens.

Ritson, 30, who was born in Thailand but brought up in West Cumbria and started as a junior at Flimby Vikings before representing Ellenborough Rangers and Maryport, is just two tries off 100 for Barrow, who first signed him in 2019.

It’s the second year running he has picked up a season-ending injury after an ankle issue last August.

In his absence, Barrow beat Sheffield 18-16 at the Speed Competitions Stadium to make it four wins running after defeating Doncaster (away), Hunslet (home) and Workington (away).

That sequence could be stretched to five on Saturday, when they face Dewsbury Rams in another home clash.

But Ritson, injured during the 56-12 win at Workington in which he claimed a hat-trick, will clearly be a big miss.

“I think I did it when trying to get a fourth try but I didn’t realise until a couple of hours after the game that there was something wrong,” he told Cumbria Crack.

“It’s rotten luck, but I’m determined to hone in on my recovery and do everything possible to return in as good condition as I can.”
