Tevita Pangai Jr reneges on Warrington Wolves deal as five extend

TEVITA PANGAI JR has reneged on his deal to sign for Warrington Wolves.

In July, the former Tongan international forward signed a one-year deal to join for next season from Catalans Dragons.

Warrington said in a statement: “While we are disappointed, the club accepts his decision, as we remain committed to building a squad of players who are fully invested in the club and its ambitions.

“We wish Tevita the very best in his future endeavours.”

Meanwhile, the Wolves have secured the permanent signing of Sam Stone from Salford Red Devils, and agreed four further contract extensions.

Second-rower Stone made 12 appearances, scoring three tries, after joining in June and has signed a two-year deal.

Toby King, Jake Thewlis, Sam Powell and Jordy Crowther have all penned new deals.

Thewlis, who scored 14 tries in 19 appearances on the wing this year and was named the club’s Young Player of the Year, has signed a new two-year deal.

King has agreed a new one-year deal, taking him into a 13th year at Warrington, as has fellow veteran Powell.

Crowther joined midway through the 2023 season and has made 51 appearances for the Wire. The forward has signed until the end of 2027.

Meanwhile, Rodrick Tai will not get a new deal and has left the club. The centre made 41 appearances across two seasons, scoring 13 tries.
