Wigan Warriors coach, Shaun Wane believes that the best team won on Thursday night, when his Warriors side moved up to second place on the Super League table, with a win against Leeds Rhinos.
In the final moments of a game filled with drama and controversy, a late Matty Smith penalty proved to be the difference, as Wigan finally repelled a late Leeds comeback to win 26-24.
But Shaun Wane was in no doubt afterwards about who deserved to win. “I thought we were worthy victors,” he said. “We deserved to win.”
“We did bomb two dead-set tries in the second half, with poor skill, but overall I’m happy with the win. It has been a real tough week so it was nice to get a win against the best team in the competition.
“Credit to them, when they go into offload mode the Rhinos are a fantastic team – the best team in the competition – but we were much improved.”
Leeds coach Brian McDermott agreed with his coaching counterpart that the best team won. “I’ve got no complaints with the loss,” he said. “I thought Wigan played better than we did, over the course of the game.”
