Three more stars commit to Hull KR for 2017 season

Hull Kingston Rovers have secured another three players for 2017 after Ben Cockayne, Chris Clarkson and George Lawler agreed to stay at the club in the Championship.

The trio have committed to seeing out their initial deals at the Lightstream Stadium with back rower Clarkson having two years left on his existing contract with the club and fullback Cockayne one season remaining at Rovers.

Lawler, who committed to a new long-term contract earlier this season, has a further three years with the Robins.

All three players were regulars in the Rovers first team this season and follow in the footsteps of teammates Shaun Lunt, Maurice Blair and Thomas Minns in remaining at the club despite relegation from Super League, whilst former Wakefield Trinity Wildcats prop Nick Scruton will also take his place in Tim Sheens’ squad for 2017.

Hull KR’s Head of Rugby Jamie Peacock said: “It’s been a simple process to retain the services of all three of these players for next season. We wanted them to stay, they wanted to continue being a part of the club and we’re all pleased we’ve been able to keep them in our squad for 2017.

“We know how much Hull Kingston Rovers means to Ben and his experience and versatility will be needed in the Championship, whilst Chris did an admirable job when often stepping in as captain in difficult circumstances during his first season at the club.

“George’s potential is clear to see and that’s why we tied him down to a long-term deal earlier this season. To retain his services once again his great news for the future of the club and we expect him to continue his development next season.”
