Ten years ago, on the first of November, Rugby League was formally launched in the Ukraine and, despite political issues in the region, it continues to grow. President of URLF, Artur Martyrosyan, hailed the landmark: “Over these ten years, we have carried out tremendous work in all areas related to development of the sport in our country,” he said.
“It is becoming more widely played and recognised with each each passing day, and that entails more training, more games, more tournaments and rivalries. We are increasing the number of players, coaches, referees, members of administration teams and the Federation itself. We have more support groups, patrons and sponsors, more individual fans, and more influence in relevant state organizations.
“From the heart,” Martyrosyan continued, “I would like to thank everyone involved in the development of rugby league in Ukraine for their contribution, especially in such difficult times for our country. We believe in the future success of a domestic competition in Ukraine, at all levels.”
