New Zealand’s Jared Waerea-Hargreaves broke down in tears after his side’s last-second victory against England in the World Cup semi finals.
“I definitely got emotional after the game and I saw a few looks on the brothers alongside me after that victory – everyone was pretty emotional,” Waerea-Hargreaves said.
“To get to that extreme was awesome. It was just one of the best feelings I have ever had.”
Sonny Bill Williams was less emotional but claimed the game was among the most physically demanding he has ever been part of.
“I don’t think I have felt like that before on a footy field,” said the skilful second-rower.
“It was such an intense game. It felt like 12 rounds [in the boxing ring]. As you can see from the bruises on my face and on my body, I am pretty banged up but I will be ready to go next week.”
