Wakefield prop begins coaching aged just 21

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats prop Daniel Smith has made the move into coaching – but Wildcats fans shouldn’t worry, as he’ll still be playing for the club in 2015.

Smith has joined the coaching team at Castleford Lock Lane, who are in the National Conference Premier. The 21-year-old used to play for the club as a junior, and will help out the current coaching team as they look to build on a good first season in the division in 2014.

Smith will combine playing with coaching Lock Lane, and he says it’s a great opportunity for him to help develop some of the players at the club.

“I’m looking forward to my return to the club, in a bid to bring out a level of professionalism, and some of the work ethics I have learned in Super League,” he said.

“From a coaching perspective I’m ready for the challenge and I will try and bring out the best in the squad here at the club.”
