WALES A 68 SIR BILLY BOSTON XIII 16
IAN GOLDEN, The Wern, Merthyr Tydfil, Saturday
THE Billy Boston side, comprising leading grassroots players after Wales A’s original opponents withdrew, performed well in the first half but, after having trailed only 26-16 at the break, fell away in the second period.
Ian Herbert led the way for Wales A in the last 40 minutes with a hat-trick, with other touchdowns going to Jermarie Chatham, Josh Harding, Mason Phillips, Jacob Purcell and Llewellyn Hawkes. Evan Williams landed the last five of his eight goals.
The Billy Boston XIII had levelled, after Matt Robb’s eighth-minute score, with Aaron Harrison’s conversion of Ben Pinnock’s try, but the sinbinning of Darren Moyle for a dangerous tackle proved costly.
Chatham, Alex Green and Mason Williams nipped over in his absence and although, on Moyle’s return, the Billy Boston outfit posted touchdowns for Luke Davies and Brandon Lamb (one of which Harrison improved). Lewis Ingram crossed in between for Wales A.
