WALES A 56 SOUTH OF ENGLAND 10
MATT ANNISS, The Gnoll, Neath, Saturday
A DOMINANT first-half display sent Wales on the way to a comfortable victory over a side who edged Scotland Bravehearts at Hawick a fortnight earlier.
Wales led 28-4 at half-time thanks to tries from George Birch, Mason Phillips, man of the match Fin Walker, Will Mathers and Jacob Purcell, with Phillips adding four conversions.
The South of England, starved of possession for much of the half, could only manage an unconverted Ben Telfer try in response, with Harry Kaufman’s 37th-minute sinbinning for holding down at a play-the-ball adding to their woes.
Wales continued to dominate in the second half, adding six more tries. Evan Williams, Issac Wheatley and a second of the afternoon from Birch put the game beyond the visitors.
Although Kaufman grabbed a consolation score, Luke Drummond converting, worse was to come in the closing stages for South of England, who had Dylan Stone yellow carded nine minutes from time for holding down.
Phillips grabbed two tries in three minutes late on to complete a deserved hat-trick (he also landed two more goals), before Wheatley somehow touched down a long, speculative kick despite the presence of two defenders.
