Walmsley aiming to sink his boyhood team

St Helens forward Alex Walmsley has revealed he will be aiming to get one over on the team he grew up watching when the defending Super League champions lock horns with Leeds Rhinos tonight.

Walmsley returns to his native West Yorkshire looking for the win that will take St Helens to the top of the league – and he revealed to Super League TV that he has an extra piece of motivation on his side when aiming for the win.

He said: “I grew up as a Leeds fan. It’s something I don’t share too often because I’ll get a bit of stick round here! But it makes it a bit more special for me to go to Headingley and play the team you grew up watching.

“Hopefully it will make it even sweeter for me personally if we can go there and pick up the win.”

Walmsley is also relishing the task of tackling two of Super League’s biggest forwards tonight.

“These are the games you look forward to; the Jamie Peacock’s and the Adam Cuthbertson’s of this world are world class, and they’re the players you need to test yourself against if you want to go on and achieve all your ambitions.

“I can’t wait; it’s going to be a tough game and there will be periods where both teams will be on top – but I’m looking forward to the battle.”
