Walsh to leave Saints for NRL return

Luke Walsh’s St Helens stint is set to finish, with the veteran halfback on his way to Manly.

League Express reported late last night that Walsh was expected to join the Sea Eagles for 2017, which is one factor behind their interest in Wigan’s Matty Smith.

The news has now spread to Australia, where Manly fans have reacted negatively to the news that they are set to sign the 29-year-old.

“God I hope not. He was garbage at Penrith,” was one supporter’s reaction to the reports.

Walsh joined the club from NRL side Penrith for the beginning of the 2014 season and played a key role in their Grand Final-winning season.

But with his contract set to expire at the end of the year, Walsh is set to join Jordan Turner Down Under next season, leaving Keiron Cunningham with Theo Fages as his recognised halfback.

Cunningham is now looking to lure Smith away from rivals Wigan, which you can read about in League Express.
