Wane insists Hampshire has long-term future at Wigan

Wigan coach Shaun Wane has debunked speculation online that Ryan Hampshire is not going to return to the club at the end of his loan spell – insisting he “absolutely” has a future at the Warriors.

Hampshire will face his parent club this weekend for the first time, after joining Castleford on a season-long loan at the beginning of the 2016 season.

Wane confirmed he has no problem with the youngster playing against Wigan, as was agreed right back at the start of the loan deal.

However, he also insisted that there is a future for Hampshire at the club in 2017 after reports suggested player and club may part ways on a more permanent basis.

“He’s on loan at Castleford and I’m not one for putting conditions in about this player not being able to play against us and so on,” Wane said. “Castleford did the right thing by Ryan in giving him some game-time and I’m not going to renege on that. He’s a very good player and the arrangement is how it was back then.

“Absolutely there’s a future here for him at Wigan,” he added.

“He’s a very good player, there’s no question in my mind about it. The fact is that I already had some players in that position when he went, and it suited everyone back then.”
