Wane linked with Scotland rugby union post

Shaun Wane’s future looks set to be in rugby union after his Wigan exit was confirmed last week.

The long-serving coach announced his shock resignation, with Wane set to leave the club at the culmination of this season.

League Express understands his next move will be into the 15-man code, with the 53-year-old considering an offer from Scotland RU to work as a skills coach across their structure.

Wane insisted he had not taken up a new job with any other party last week, and while Wane isn’t believed to have signed a deal yet, it appears likely that will be the next move in his career.

Wigan through and through, his departure will end a 30-year association with the club as player and coach.

He took over as head coach in 2012 and has guided the club to Grand Final, Challenge Cup and World Club Challenge success.

But he has decided to call time on this part of his career to take up a new challenge, one that looks set to see him cross codes.
