Wane targeting Wigan double on Friday night

Wigan Warriors coach Shaun Wane has admitted that whilst the prospect of the exciting final weekend is great, he’s targeting a Wigan double of his own on Friday night.

The Warriors can secure top spot in Super League over the weekend, should Huddersfield beat Leeds and they beat Castleford – barring a mammoth win for St Helens spoiling the party on Thursday.

And with Wigan’s under-19s Grand Final against St Helens acting as a precursor to the Tigers game, he wants to see a Wigan double to make it a weekend to remember for the club.

“The RFL wanted it really exciting, and they’ve got it,” Wane told Super League TV.

“Everything going into that last game is an outstanding effort from them.

“It’s got the makings of a great weekend of rugby league.

“When you look at our Under-19s playing in the Grand Final beforehand, and we’re straight after them, it’s a great weekend for the club.

“If they can turn St Helens over and get that, and we can win and get an home semi-final and hopefully win the League Leaders Shield then it’s going to be a good night.”
