Makinson feels like he’s regaining confidence ahead of run-in

St Helens winger Tommy Makinson has revealed he expected to come back from his serious leg injury immediately at the peak of his powers – but insisted that with the business end of the season approaching, he feels like he’s finally getting back to his best.

Makinson missed a fair portion of the season after suffering a broken leg earlier in the year, but he is now back and ready to help fire St Helens to a second successive Super League crown in 2015.

But he revealed that it was a real shock to him to experience the trouble of getting back to top form, although insisted he’s well on the way to getting back to his top form.

“The type of personality I have, I thought I’d come straight back into top form,” he told BBC Radio Merseyside.

“I thought I’d be flying, scoring, getting a few tries and playing really well and it was a bit of a shock.”

“It’s [about] confidence when you’ve broke your leg like that – confidence running the ball back, getting involved in tackles and things like that.

“Now I feel like I’m getting back into it and I feel like I can really start gaining that confidence for the form I was in before I left.”
