Ward hopeful London shine under extra spotlight of Summer Bash

There are some huge games and huge occasions at this weekend’s Summer Bash – and London coach Danny Ward is hopeful his side will thrive under the extra spotlight the event provides.

The Championship heads to Blackpool this weekend for the annual Bank Holiday bash – and the fixture schedulers appear to have struck gold, with all the top six playing one another.

Among those games is a mouthwatering second-versus-third clash as the Broncos play Toulouse: and Ward wants the presence of the Sky cameras and a bumper crowd to be a positive, not a negative, for his side.

“It’s fantastic, the whole concept,” he told TotalRL.

“There’s going to be some good games with the top six all playing each other. It’s a really exciting atmosphere, with fans of all clubs all enjoying each others’ company and having a good time. It’s a great concept.

“Everyone likes playing on Sky, and admittedly it’s more of a novelty for the Championship lads to experience it. But it’s another incentive – to have a good performance in a big-game occasion. It adds to to the buzz of the weekend.”

Ward is also fully aware of the capabilities of Toulouse – after Sylvain Houles side recorded a thumping win over the Broncos in Ealing at Easter.

“Toulouse are playing really well,” he said.

“They were a bit unlucky against Toronto, and it was a lot closer than the final score suggested. They play some good football, they’ve recruited well and Sylvain is doing a good job there. They towelled us and did a real job on us at our place over Easter – so we know we’ll have to be on.

“I burned that DVD of our review straight away the day after Good Friday! Things have changed since then though; that was quite a while ago. We’re just focussed on our own form – Easter was a long time ago.”
