WARRINGTON WOLVES hooker Sam Powell has received a three-match ban for his hip-drop tackle in Saturday’s Magic Weekend defeat to Leigh Leopards.
Powell was sent to the sin bin for the challenge on Leigh’s Tesi Niu in the 51st minute.
He was charged with Grade E dangerous contact, receiving 21 penalty points to a previously clean record.
Warrington will be without Powell, who has also been fined, for their upcoming games at Wigan Warriors this Friday, at home to Hull KR on Saturday, July 18, and the repeat clash at Leigh on Saturday, July 25.
Powell was the only player banned by the match review panel after Magic, although there were 14 charges in total.
Half of them came from Wigan’s brutal derby win over St Helens, including Grade C charges for Warriors pair Jake Wardle (striking) and Oliver Partington (head contact).
