Webster proud of players despite collapse

James Webster refused to criticise his players after they surrendered a 20 point lead in defeat to Hull FC.

The Rovers looked set to secure a famous win over their city rivals before 22 unanswered points secured the Airlie Birds the victory.

But despite their collapse, Webster revealed he didn’t hold the players accountable.

“I felt sorry for the players who were screaming to come off, but had to stay on,” he said.

“I’m very disappointed we lost the game. People might have expected me to blame the players, but I’m not going to.

“We showed improvement and I can see we are moving in the right direction.

“I’m extremely proud of my players, for 60 minutes we did what we wanted to do, but we had nothing left.”
