Whitehaven unveil new board including club legends

WHITEHAVEN have unveiled a new board including legendary players Craig Calvert and David Seeds.

Calvert, who is the club’s highest try-scorer of all time, is director of rugby, while Seeds is an associate director, having spent 18 years at the club as a player and coach. Both were part of the 2005 National League One table-topping team.

The board will be led by new chief executive Lee Butterworth, who was voted in after being involved with the club in various roles over the past twelve months.

Butterworth said: “We thought it was time for new people to take the club forward. Fresh outlooks, different perspectives, trying new things which might not have been done in the past.

“We see this as an opportunity to grow the board and get younger people involved with creative ideas.

“It’s a massive job to do everything right as well as progress the club and pay the bills. The more of the right people we can get, the better for the club.”

Ian Lowrey has become operations director, with Tommy Johnson and Grant Taylor remaining as associate directors and Les Ashe and Amanda Morgan as advisors.
