Widnes shock Wigan

Widnes Vikings picked up their second win at Wigan this season as they shocked the Warriors in an 8-6 victory.

A Corey Thompson double was enough for Denis Betts’ side, with the winger also making two key defensive efforts to stop Wigan winning the game.

Widnes managed to win the game despite forwards Jack Buchanan and Connor Farrell being sent to the sin-bin midway through the second-half.

Thompson gave Widnes the lead in the 10th minute after a fine finish in the corner before adding his second on the half-hour mark, giving the Vikings an 8-0 lead at the break.

Wigan eventually responded through Liam Farrell in the 51st minute, but although they faced the 12-man Vikings for almost 20 minutes, they couldn’t break the visitors down, resulting in their League Leaders’ Shield hopes taking a heavy hammering.
