WIDNES VIKINGS have recruited two Rochdale Hornets players for next season.

Winger Dan Nixon and halfback Jack Hansen have been added to a squad already boosted by the signing of Australian fullback or centre Byron Johnson, who has been with playing for Souths Logan Magpies in the Queensland Cup and had the chance of a trial with NRL team Brisbane Broncos.

Nixon, 24, will help replace Salford-bound Mike Butt. He has spent six seasons at Rochdale registering 60 tries in 95 games.

Coleman has been tracking his progress since he was at Oldham St Annes in the community game and said: “He’s strong, can carry the ball really well and he’s as good as anyone in the air.”

Hansen (pictured), the 29-year-old son of former Vikings forward Lee Hansen, made his breakthrough with North Wales Crusaders after being in the Leigh Leopards (then Centurions)  system.

He has also played for Swinton Lions (when Coleman was assistant coach, then coach), Sheffield Eagles and Halifax Panthers and has a contract to 2028.

“Jack has a great kicking game, is a real run threat and a good try-scorer for a halfback,” said Coleman.
