Wigan moved closer to Leeds in second place in the Super League table with a convincing 42-16 victory over Catalans Dragons in their on-the-road game at Millwall FC this afternoon.
In front of an enthusiastic crowd of 8,101, the Warriors took the lead after 15 minutes, when Ben Flower scored his first try of the season.
The Catalans were soon level, however, when Krisnan Inu got over the line, with Scott Dureau also adding the goal.
Wigan fullback Matty Bowen then intervened to score Wigan’s second try, with Smith’s conversion making it 12-6, a scoreline that remained until half-time.
The Dragons levelled the scores immediately after half-time with a brilliant individual try from Dureau, who also converted it.
But Wigan again took the lead on 50 minutes, with another fine try from Bowen, after great work from Matty Smith and Joel Tomkins, and when Oliver Gildart scored three minutes later it looked like plain sailing for Wigan at 24-12.
Jordan Sigisneau pulled a try back for the Catalans, but Dureau couldn’t add the goal, and Wigan rounded off the match with a flourish in the final 15 minutes with three tries to Josh Charnley, Larne Patrick and Dominic Manfredi, with Bowen converting all three to give a final score of 42-16.
