Wigan go top after defeating Huddersfield

Wigan Warriors hit the summit of Super League after overcoming Huddersfield 26-19.

A Ryan Brierley hat-trick wasn’t enough for the Giants as two Matty Smith drop goals and a late Dan Sarginson try secured the two points for Shaun Wane’s side.

Wigan took the lead through the returning Anthony Gelling before two Brierley tries gave Huddersfield a 12-6 lead at half-time.

The Warriors hit the front again following tries for John Bateman and Smith, but Brierley’s third levelled things up.

Drop goals were exchanged before Smith kicked another, and Sarginson’s late try secured the result.
