Wigan half back or hooker Sam Powell has been ruled out of Saturday’s World Club Challenge after sustaining an ankle injury in training.
An initial diagnosis has ruled him out of the game with Sydney Roosters whilst the full extent of the injury will be investigated by Wigan’s specialists on their return to the UK next week.
Powell, who developed through the famed Wigan youth development system had forced his way into Head Coach Shaun Wane’s reckoning after impressing last season and during pre-season.
Shaun Wane commented, “It is a big blow for Sam who has worked really hard in pre-season but with his character I’m sure he will bounce back stronger.”
