Wigan St Judes stalwart Joe Fitzsimmons set for council honour

WIGAN ST JUDES stalwart Joe Fitzsimmons will be honoured by the Wigan Council later this month.

He will be feted at the Believe Sports Awards at The Edge, Wigan on Saturday, October 17 when, in recognition of his “outstanding dedication to sport” over many years, and the inspiration he “has provided to generations through his commitment and passion”, he will be presented with the inaugural Sir Billy Boston Award.

“There is no more deserving recipient,” said Councillor Chris Ready.

The veteran administrator has served Judes in a range of capacities – primarily as secretary – since the early 1980s and has also been a driving force behind the Wigan and District League.

He also acted tirelessly on the committee of the National Conference League, which would have been celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

Judes themselves could also be in line for honours at the same event, having been shortlisted for the Club of the Year accolade.
